Laurie is passionate about helping people find the best and most efficient way to immigrate to Canada.
Born in Vancouver, BC, Laurie lived and studied in England and France before graduating at the top of her class and receiving a BRE in Business Administration from the University of British Columbia. She was subsequently awarded a Graduate Fellowship to complete a MSc in Resource Management Science at UBC.
Laurie’s interest in immigration arose from her work with refugees. After travelling to Greece in 2015 to help refugees and migrants fleeing to safety in northern Europe, Laurie saw firsthand the life-changing impact of successfully navigating complicated immigration processes. A year later, Laurie founded Canada Caring Society, a volunteer non-profit organization which supports refugees overseas and in Canada.
Through Canada Caring Society, Laurie has worked extensively in the area of refugee sponsorship and has helped over 100 individuals and families find asylum in Canada. Last year, she launched a project to sponsor more than 200 refugees who have been held in detention by the Australian government since 2013.
Laurie has also spearheaded a world-leading initiative to work with industry partners to provide jobs for refugees arriving in Canada and is widely-recognized as an outspoken advocate for refugees. She regularly speaks at national and international conferences and events on the topic of refugee sponsorship.
Laurie is currently completing a UBC Certificate in Immigration: Laws, Policies and Procedures as part of the requirement to become a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant. She also speaks fluent French.
When not working, volunteering or studying, Laurie loves to travel, read and hang out with family and friends. She is the proud mother of two amazing young people. She is also an avid skier, enjoys canoeing and recently took up mountain biking. Laurie spent many years in Whistler, but recently she moved north looking for new adventures. She is thoroughly enjoying discovering the natural beauty of Smithers, BC and the surrounding area.
